The FDA has approved the latest insulin pump system by medical device manufacturer Hoffman-LaRoche, which uses interactive technology to make monitoring and administration of insulin as easy as possible. The new device could be a boon to those following a weight loss plan for diabetics in an effort to get their medical condition under control.

New device may be a tool for people on diabetes diet

The insulin pump, known as the Accu-Chek Combo System, combines a remotely operated insulin pump with a glucose meter for easiest possible management of diabetes.

The system is able to exchange information via Bluetooth technology, allowing for fast test results and discreet, touch-free insulin administration. The device will make it even easier for individuals to monitor and manage diabetes from any location. For those who are managing their condition through a diabetes diet, this device could prove to be another tool in their arsenal.

The Accu-Chek Combo System was given clearance by the FDA this month, and availability is expected later this year. The device has already launched in other countries, including Australia, France and Germany. Features of the device include:

  • A full color display to alert users to glucose levels and insulin dosing
  • The largest capacity insulin pump available in the United States currently
  • Wireless communication between the pump and meter, through blue tooth technology
  • Hands-free administration of insulin pump for discreet diabetes management
  • Precision of units for most effective basal rate adjustment

The pump will provide those following a weight loss plan for diabetics yet another method for effectively managing their condition.

Best diet for diabetes

While the new insulin pump by Roche offers convenience and precision in managing diabetes, it does not effectively treat the condition like other methods might. Dr. Michael Kaplan, founder of The Center for Medical Weight Loss, believes that a successful, physician-supervised diabetic diet plan will not only help patients achieve their ideal weight, but can also help them reverse the disease.

“We see diabetics all the time who lose weight and no longer need insulin,” Dr. Kaplan stated.

The Center for Medical Weight Loss helps those battling this chronic condition find a weight loss plan that effectively manages the disease. There are currently 450 centers nationwide, and weight loss success stories are increasing every day.
